Well it's school holidays which means I have both the kiddies at home...

It also means I have another little muse to play with.

Classic comment from cheeky little monkey Felix the other day...

"Mummy I don't mind if you take photos, just not too many".

Well I am a Mummy and WE ALL take loads of photos don't we.In fact I seem to know a few Bon Papas and Grandads who took a few photos in their day too!

Whilst we were in Brittany we also visited Vitré.

Home of the Gardan ancestors.

It was another FREEZING day (Astrid is in the pram somewhere).

Nevertheless it was a fabulous little town to walk around.

Especially when we popped in for the local specialty - galletes (savoury crepes) and cider!! Yumm-ee!

Whilst wandering the streets of St Malo we stumbled upon a little kiddie playground.

Felix was thrilled...

Mummy and Daddy were a little chilly however - the weather was glacial!

Even Felix was a little cold despite the running...

But he had loads of fun...

After lunch we went for a little stroll around the streets in St Malo.

Terribly pretty but so icy cold.

A little treat helped warm Felix and Daddy.

Felix spotted 'our family' in a shop window display - only thing was, Astrid was still in Mummy's tummy!

And then some crazed seagull nearly whisked poor Felix away!

But luckily for us he didn't get very far.

And before long it was time to hop back in the car and head back to our little abode.

Lunch at St Malo.

So we have been hit by some super cold front here in France ... and what's worse is poor Bon Papa's hotel's heating system has broken down...

But despite the cold we set off for the beautiful St Malo today. First stop - a seafood lunch!

Fortunately for us they actually had a high chair for Little A (a novel change to Paris).

Felix decided to take some snaps of everyone (just like Mummy does!).

By which stage we were feeling content with thanks to a delicious lunch!

Ok and maybe a glass or two of wine.

Works a treat and saw us through many hours of driving around Brittany.

Christmas Day on the beach.

Like all true aussies we spent Christmas afternoon at the beach at Dinard.

Only thing was it was FREEZING!

But it was lovely to have some fresh seaside air...

And it certainly was a pretty little town - kinda like Whale Beach.

So after a quick visit...

It was time to head back to the car to warm up...

Bon Papa joined us on Christmas Day and so it was a perfect opportunity for a reindeer photo with the grandkids (don't you just love it Aunty Caitlin!).

The kids were pretty excited about more presents...

And of couse Christmas wouldn't be Christmas with out some nibblies...

A cuddle amongst siblings ... Astrid just loving Felix's close cuddles as usual!

And then a good animation film Toy Story to finish the afternoon.

Christmas Day - Round one presents.

It was a bright and early start on Christmas morning as a certain 4 year old had a sneak peak under the tree at 4am and knew there were lots and lots of presents.

Astrid, having just had birthday party season, is now quite familiar with the notion of presents and so sussed out some of the presents too.

Felix had a put in a special request to Santa for a Buzz Lightyear ...

... and would you believe it, to Felix's delight, Santa managed to find one.

Astrid received her first real doll - with real hair and everything.

So they were both super chuffed. And this was only prezzies round 1, we still had more to open with Bon Papa when he arrived!

Bon Papa arrived in Brittany today, just in time for the Christmas festivities (and meals) and for Astrid to claim his little beanie.

Luckily for Astrid she also managed to get a few cuddles whilst having her evening bottle.

Xmas Errands.

There are always a few important errands that need to be done before Christmas - like ordering the seafood.

So the boys quickly popped into the seafood shop whilst the girls waited (patiently) in the car.

Luckily for Astrid (you can imagine the Xmas queues) she had one of Felix's favourite books.

This Christmas we decided it would be nice to get out of Paris and see a bit more of France, given Daddy also had some time off ... so up to Brittany we went.

We stayed in a little house about 30 minutes from the coast, where they had chickens...

And so each day Daddy and Felix had the job of collecting the eggs...

As you can see the fog was pretty heavy the first morning and the chickens were very keen to be set free for the day!

Felix did a great job of feeding them...

And collecting the eggs...

Can I tell you how delicious fresh eggs are! Yum-mee!

It only takes one minute whilst you are busy preparing an evening meal for chaos to happen.

But hey it keeps her entertained for a wee while!

A four year old's birthday party is terribly important.

For weeks at school there had been much discussion about who was and wasn't coming to Felix's party.

In the end we had about 12 four year olds including Felix new best buddie Kedyan (in brown above) and Agate.

We played Pass the Parcel.

And then it was present time ... and all the kiddies promptly started tearing into the presents.

And of course cake time...

So it seems that little Astrid is developing quite a taste for fashion.

She loves to get 'dressed' which involves finding a piece of her clothing and drapping it on herself (usually over her shoulders).

She is also quite taken by her new boots (as is Mummy) and loves picking them up when she is not wearing them. Little cherub!

So Felix was terribly chuffed with himself today when he appeared ready to go out in Mummy's boots.

By the time Mummy reached for the camera he was concentrating very hard on how exactly to walk in the heels.

So we've been wondering if shell be up and about walking by Felix's birthday.

So as you probably heard poor little Felix had Scarlett Fever so we spent many days indoors and thus lots of colouring in.

Not liking to miss out on anything, Astrid was also in on the colouring in action.

This year Mummy and Felix decided to have a little halloween party ...

And have some dress up fun...

Invited guests were Cinderella ... a Pumpkin ... Dash Incredible...

The Mummies had some mid-week champagne...

The kids played a spooky game of 'Pass the Parcel' and 'Pin the Baby Spider on the Mummy Spider'.

And we all enjoyed celebrating Halloween in Paris!

Mummy was in the middle of feeding Astrid one night when she popped out to the kitchen to put some final touches on Felix's dinner...

"Mummy ... I'm feeding Astrid".

And sure enough Felix was feeding his little sister (just like Luka, Ash).

He did a pretty good job too. Hmmm ... maybe this could happen more often.

Although a little later Astrid decided to help herself to Felix's half finished yoghurt.

Hmmm...not so good!

Needless to say it was straight into the bath tub!

Our own little super hero - Dash!

Some of you may not realise that we actually have our own little super hero living with us in Paris.

Meet Dash Incredible.

He recently made an appearance to meet Astrid after his Mummy searched high and low for a dash outfit (thanks for trying Ash and Uncle Jonno!).

Astrid was pretty excited to meet Dash.

And Dash was pretty excited too.

So be warned if you see a flash of blond hair running past (running really, really fast!) ... you know it's Dash popping in to say 'Hi'!

Ironic, as this is the last film Mummy and Daddy saw whilst Felix was in Mummy's tummy a week before he was born!

Sweet little Astrid wants to be just like her big brother Felix.

She wants to watch TV with him...

At dinner time she wants to stand right beside him...

Although sometimes she gets just a little too close to Felix's dinner.

But Felix has learnt a very good technique of keeping his arm up whilst eating.

Mummy is endeavouring to give them the same meals where possible to minimise the stress!

On Astrid's birthday we went to the park to give the kiddies a run around.

Felix had fun on the new playground they installed...

Each afternoon Mummy and Astrid pick Felix up from school.

Astrid is usually terribly excited to see Felix again.

And it's fast becoming a ritual for her to hold Felix's 'doudou' on the way home.

Luckily today Felix was in a great mood ...

(Sometimes he can be a bit weary after a long day at school and no nap!)

This weekend it was Eléa's birthday.

And more chaos indoors with the kiddies.

Our good friends ventured off to Australia earlier this year but have since decided that Paris is really home.

So it's back to having playdates in the Luxembourg Gardens. Yippeee!!!

Astrid loves to be one of the big kids now and scoot around here, there and everywhere (yes she is a bum scooter with the occasional crawl!).

And you can see she just loves being one of the 'big kids' playing in the sand.

Not to mention loving being on the see-saw with everyone!

Although she choose wisely to leave them to it when they were going a wee bit faster!

We suffered the worst jetlag coming back from The States. The kids were shattered for a week (Mummy and Daddy were shattered for two). Everybody was out of their rhythms. Alas we'd be busy doing something and turn back and find somebody had fallen asleep at the table. Whoops.

All good holidays must come to an end and after we had spent a couple of weeks in the States it was time to return to Paris.

Alas we discovered our flight was delayed - but luckily they had a little play area for the kiddies (don't you love the States).

As usual Astrid just wanted to be doing what Felix was doing.

Even Mummy was in on the action with the spnky fireman (ok, we had a lot of time to kill!).

Sometimes Mummy and Daddy divide and conquer with the kiddies.

So one morning Mummy and Felix set off for the park whilst Astrid had her nap.

Strangely enough near the park we discovered huge bear footprints...

But we couldn't see any bears anywhere (luckily).

So instead we had some fun instead.

It was a really great morning toegther for Mummy and Felix.

Now if only we could find those bears!

We did loads of walking whilst in Chicago and in fact whilst we were in the States.

And whilst in Chicago Mummy fell in love with the houses ... aren't they just gorgeous!

Whilst in Chicago we spent lots of time at Oz Park which celebrates 'The Wizard of Oz' theme (the author used to live close by). Dorothy’s Playlot is filled with play equipment for the little ones to climb, swing, and run. There's the Emerald Garden and when you arrive you are greeted by statues of the Tin Man, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, and everyone’s favorite: Dorothy & Toto. It was a pretty cool place to hang out!

Lincoln Park Zoo.

Whilst Mummy was off doing her Photography Workshop in Chicago, Felix, Astrid and Daddy went to the Lincoln Park Zoo.

There were lots of animals to see...

And different ways to explore the Zoo...

And white monkeys too.

They had great fun telling Mummy all about it when she came home later that day!

(Hmmmm...maybe Mummy should have gone with them...poor Astrid!)

Visiting Lucy.

We visited the gorgeous Lucy and her family whilst we were in Chicago for a spectacular feast.

Felix and Lucy had such fun together running a riot together...

And were little monkeys together ... Mummy's just disappointed she didn't take more photos! Especially of our park outtings together. Sorry Aunty Kim!!

More fun at Navy Pier.

One of the other great things at Navy Pier is the Merry Go Round with lots of fabulous animals.

Of course Felix opted for the Lion and he was pretty excited!!!

Astrid on the other hand was a little more reserved...

Ok, she was worried poor little thing!

But it didn't take her long to get into it!

Daddy and Felix then had great fun on the Falling Lighthouse...

Again Astrid was a little concerned that her big brother and Daddy were going to be ok!

So we went bakc on the Merry Go Round ... for more fun!

Buy this stage the little 11 month old was getting into the spirit of it all.

And loving it!

And the afternoon finished up with some Halloween fun.

It was lots of fun and highly recommended if you are in Chicago!

Chicago - The Navy Pier.

We discovered that Chicago has a pier with an amusement park ... it's callled Navy Pier.

And it has a fantastic Ferris Wheel with views over Chicago.

Felix was pretty excited...

Astrid loved the view...

And it seems we went higher ...

and higher...

Which made Mummy feel pretty ill (v-e-r-t-i-g-o-)!

But it really was an amazing view!

The Sears Tower.

This is us up the Sears Tower - one of the tallest buildings in the world. 110 floors!

What an awesome view of Chiacgo.

Felix was pretty obsessed with the binocular thingys...

But then was pretty impressed with the view.

Poor Astrid slept through it all (with a bit of persuasion from Daddy)!

Mummy was super impressed!

Unbeknownst to us, Chicago has one of the tallest buildings in the world - The Sears Tower (just behind the twin towers in KL) with 110 floors.

So before we went up the tower we had a lovely sit in the park 'en face' and enjoyed our coffees.

Daddy's a tough critic though so don't think it was quite up to scratch...

Mummy was enjoying the soy that is impossible to find in France and captured the moment with a 'Dave Hayes' style portrait ...

And of course Astrid was simply happy to be out of the pram to stretch those legs!

We were so surprised that Chicago put on such great weather. Really made our trip. Meant little Astrid could wear her super cute dress from Uncle Barrie and Aunty Kim a few more times.

The American Diner.

Whilst in The States, Mummy really wanted to have an 'American Diner' type experience.

So one night we were walking home and saw a booth calling our name in Lincoln Park (not to mention their cocktails.

The great thing about the USA is they are SOOOO kid friendly and always have crayons and something to colour in - very sensible really!

And even high chairs (unheard of in France!) for little girls who just want to be out exploring rather than eating!

Poor little Astrid became quite accustomed to 'take away' food (jars, organic yes, but jars!)

So we were all pretty pleased with our (huge) meals...

Gotta love those fries. Yes Mummy helped Felix!

And little Astrid helped Daddy!

But boy did we pay the price the following day*!

*Never let a soon-to-be One Year Old gorge herself on fries just for some peace whilst you are eating a meal!

Shed Aquarium.

Next stop on the Chicago agenda - The Shed Aquarium.

I have to say having seen the Sydney Aquarium, we had rather high expectations.

The Shed Aquarium was great but nothing on Sydney.

Of course Felix had a great time looking at sting rays...

...the different fish and the sharks.

Astrid thought they were kinda cool too!

But alas it just didn't compare to the Sydney Aquarium.

Although had to smile at this photo ... very Sydney don't you think?

But oh what perfect weather we were having - YUM!

Astrid was asleep here... I think I wish Felix was too!

The Field Museum.

It was a gorgeously perfect sunny Chicago day and so we set off to see the Field Museum (after having a look at a little sculpture installation on the way).

Surprisingly enough it was pretty empty (probably given the sunshine outside!).

Everyone (aka Felix) was terribly excited to see even MORE dinosaurs.

And the elephants...

And the different exhibitions (which really were fantastic and perfect for those freezing snowy winter days!)

There were SO many animals to look at ...

Astrid insisted on getting in on the action, out of the pram thanks Mummy and Daddy!

After all the excitement we stopped for a bite to eat in the cafe just underneath the pterodactyl.

Hello Chicago.

Goodbye New York. Hello Chicago!

After a relatively painless flight (only 2 hours!!!) we arrived in Chicago and to our abode for the next 5 days in beautiful Old Town.

Once we had slipped into something cooler we slipped off to nearby Oz Park for a run around...

And some 'swinging' action.

Little Astrid had a great time ... although her big brother was somewhat obsessed with going HIGHER than Astrid.

Astrid didn't care who was higher she was just excited to be on the swings.

Needless to say this became our local whilst in Chicago Town!

Today we set off for Chicago after a jam-packed trip to New York (don't you just love the American flag!).

We checked out our plane ... a little one!

Mummy and Daddy escaped the kiddies today (with thanks to the babysitter Angel) and so we set off for the Guggenheim.

Alas most of the permanent collection was closed ... although we still enjoyed a couple of temporary exhibitions, some french art and the building itself!

On the way home we decided to walk back through Central Park...

Why not enjoy the greenery rather than the city streets.

Here you have it .... us getting out and about in New York .... Astrid having a nap in the pram - NOT! And Felix being a mad man on the step ...

... so in the interests of the younger family members (theme of the holiday) we set off for Central Park on the way home from FAO.

We found a fantastic playground with so many fun things to do for the big kids and the little kids...

(We had a good laugh when we saw this photo of Felix having FUN at the park!)

Astrid did some exploring of the pram...

We went back to Fifth Avenue today and of course that meant to FAO Schwarz for more story time...

And on the way through the store we visited 'The Very Hungry Caterpiller' family (Mummy's favourite book from when she was little).

There was a caterpiller for everybody (and then some)!

Astrid could not get enough of them...

We did some more browsing....

And then it was time for stories for the big kids...

....whilst the little one caused chaos in her wake.

Felix was fast becoming part of the furniture at Schwartz Storytime...

The morning was completed by a burger and fries at Pop Burger.

Mummy set off for Boston for the weekend so Daddy and Uncle Jonso were loose in NYC with the kiddies and so sensibly they set off for Toys'r'us (I think Uncle Jonso's fave).

They were greeted by a HUGE dinosaur which made poor Felix a little apprehensive at first...

Understandably, as in addition to being huge he also ROARED...

Then after a little while Felix was into spirit of shopping...thanks to Uncle Jonso.

Not to mention the spirit of the Ferris Wheel - in a shop can you imagine?

Then it was time to hail a cab - thanks to Uncle Jonso and Felix.

Of course one of the best highlights of NYC was seeing Uncle Jonso.

Luckily for us one day he managed to escape for an afternoon and met us in The Village for a coffee and sambo (later to be voted Matthew's favourite coffee in NYC).

Afterwards we went for a wander and discovered some of the street art ... (some weird breathing acoustics thang).

And an awesome sand painter with a somewhat aboriginal flavour.

He certainly kept the kiddies entertained!

Nanny & Pappie often listen to telecasts from the MET Opera and so whilst we were in NYC we were going to pop along to check it out. Alas time escaped us so the closest we came is when we met Uncle Jonso in Greenwich for a mid afternoon coffee. (Everyone looks just thrilled don't they?)

So we choose to have a Hot Diggity Dog right on Fifth Avenue.

Oh the kiddies .... aren't they cute. I have to say its still that lovely stage when they still just adore each other.

All Felix has to do is walk into the room and Astrid just beams.

Felix is convinced that when he gets bigger he is going to marry Astrid.

And apparently, they are going to have a baby .... hmmmm .... when should we tell him it's actually against the law?

But in the meantime it just melts Mummy's heart.

September 11th - Times Square.

So after finishing up with the cruise around Manhatten we set off on foot (or Felix by board) and stopped in at Times Square.

Of course there were hoards of people so after a quick stop to refuel ... on the coffee front ... we escaped the crowds.

But of course it wouldn't be the States without seeing those golden arches would it?

Or the American flag for that matter....

September the 11th. And somehow we had managed to be here in NYC this year.

Mummy wasn't overly keen to do something anywhere near ground zero ... so instead we saw NYC from the water (and saw where the twin towers used to be ... a solemn moment!)

Nevertheless Felix loved being on the boat ... (surprise surprise!).

And I have to say the view of NYC was pretty cool.

We saw the gorgeous Brooklyn Bridge...

Although the youngest member of the family wasn't particularly thrilled with the boat trip ... (we see this expression quite a lot at the moment!)

Hello Empire State!!

Today we went up the Empire State building. It was stunning September day and given how high we were it wasn't actually too cold (thankfully we didn't come in winter!).

Felix just loved being up so high and looking down on all those buildings.

Astrid on the other hand, could not have cared less about the view and was 'taken' by the hand held guides - her new best friend ....

... insisting on holding it for the rest of the visit!

We met a really nice security guy who was quite taken by the kiddies... as they were by him.

At which point Felix decided to learn a bit more about the view...and NYC.

Absolutely stunning!

Then of course we had some family pix ... just like all the rest of the tourists (although I think Felix was sleeping!!)!

And then we decided it was time to head downstairs ... for some lunch (and a coffee or two).

And so we left the Empire State to it's true NYC residents .... the pigeons.

Whilst we were in New York we were staying in an apartment on the Upper West side. Not too far from Columbus Circle.

Needless to say we became quite familiar with the area and luckily for us we found our haven .... Wholefoods, I am sure they are trés grateful for our patronage!

Mummy used to visit New York quite a lot when she was younger as F&A's grandparents (Grandad & Granma Jo) used to live there.

Mummy always loved FAO Schwarz so it was off to FAO Schwarz we went.

Each day they have a 'Story Telling' session...

Which was entertaining for both Felix and Astrid.

And of course there were LOADS of toys ... (including THE Crocodile Hunter)

So it was really kiddie heaven!

I think this was F&A's favourite place in New York.

Poor little Astrid had a few teeth that decided to break through whilst we were in NYC. It made for some pretty early mornings (especially coupled with the jetlag) which meant we were ready to start our day about 4am. Eeeekkk....and they call this a holiday???

Visiting the Natural History Museum in NYC was also pretty high on the agenda so we could have a look at the dinosaurs.

We had a good laugh when we saw little Astrid having a Jurassic Park moment in the pram.

Felix, however, was in little boy heaven ...

with so many dinosaurs to see...

Which is lucky as it was pouring outside and we didn't fancy getting drenched again too soon...

Even little Astrid had a great day once she was up and into things.

We'd highly recommend it. It was simply a great day out!

So early September Felix, Astrid, Mummy and Daddy set off for NYC and Chicago.

We took it easy the first few days (to get over the jetlag and settle easily in to the USA)....

First on the agenda was visiting the MoMA.

Which as expected was just fabulous.

After a morning of looking at the contemporary art we decided to visit Central Park and have a munch on a pretzel.

Not to mention take in the skyline.

And to check out those fabulous swings that we just don't have in Paris!!!

Whilst in Australia we went to Lyla's holiday house at Lake Macquarie for some fun with her Granma and Granpa.

We had lots of fun on the pier with the kiddies (although the Mummies had a few nervous moment trying to keep track of all the kiddies on the jetty).

It was just lovely to be by the water...

And to enjoy that lovely fresh air.

And running here there and everywhere.

And if you look carefully off in the distance you can see the little-ees getting acquinted on the grass.

Uncle Danny traveled up from Melbourne to join us in Queensland for a couple of days and to meet his little god daughter Astrid.

It was great to see Danny (who's looking fabulous by the way) and after a delicious lunch at Maleny we stopped to see the gorgeous Glass House Mountains.

Just divine.

A big thanks Danny for coming all the way to see us. We really enjoyed seeing you!

Evenings at the beach.

It was full moon whilst we were in Queensland so we went to the beach at Caloundra for the afternoon.

Of course little 3 year old boys had lost of running to do (with the occassional cuddle)...

Of course there was a game of beach footy by the full moon...

I think Felix's team won ... surprise surprise!

Or was it Daddy's?

Astrid was subjected to an aerobics class with her crazy Daddy and Aunty (she wasn't really into it guys!).

And then Mummy snapped the funniest photo of the trip .... everyone is their own little world. Cracks me up!

And of course we spent loads of time looking at that gorgeous moon as the sun started to go down.

It really was a stunning and memorable afternoon!

This last one is one of Mummy's faves!
